John and Caroline Sauer

John Sauer was born in Bavaria, Germany in January of 1836 and was married to Caroline Hoyer in Valley City, Ohio on November 17th, 1868. They had 10 children. John's funeral was at St. Ignatius in Cleveland at 9:30am on March 30th, 1915 and he was burried in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Caroline was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 15th, 1845. We know that she had one sister named Matilda who was born in February of 1849 in Ohio, was married in 1870, and had 4 children. Family information says that her father was born in Italy and that her mother was born in Alsace, France. But Marj Waldorf visited St. Martin's Catholic Church in early 1997 and found a grave marker for a Karl Hoyer who died on June 20th, 1871 and his frau Margaretha. The inscriptions on the stone were very worn but were definitly German. Caroline is burried either in St. Mary's or Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland.

John owned a barrel factory in Cleveland Ohio in the late 1880's. The factory was possibly named "Sower". (See story under Rose A. Waldorf.)
